Staying Connected

I consider it a great privilege to provide care for the 6,400 seniors in in InnovAge's Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) and Living Independently for Elders (LIFE) programs. They give our entire organization purpose and fulfillment.
 
Over the past several weeks, we’ve had calls with our participants and their caregivers across the country. We’ve shared updates on how we are providing care during the pandemic. We’ve also heard their questions and concerns. In every conversation, I’ve been reminded of the special relationship between InnovAge and our participants and their families. I am grateful for them and for their trust in us.
 
Our seniors and their caregivers have been valuable partners as we’ve shifted the way we deliver care in the time of social distancing. For example, they have welcomed telehealth as a replacement for in-person clinical visits. Feedback from participants has been positive. One told me her telehealth visits were easy and worked well for her.
 
We’ve communicated closely with participants and caregivers on other aspects of care. Some participants have asked us to check in on them less frequently. We appreciate and have honored their request. In other cases, we are a lifeline between participants and caregivers. One woman who is restricted from visiting her mother’s facility said, “I am so grateful to your team for being there for my mom.” 
 
The question I receive most from participants and caregivers is, “When will the PACE centers reopen?” Understandably, our seniors miss being able to interact with our care teams and each other on a daily basis. Caregivers, too, wonder when their routines may return to a new normal. They have asked thoughtful questions about the health and safety protocols we will put in place when we reopen.
 
The protection of our participants and staff is my highest priority. I am taking a thoughtful and strategic approach to reopening our centers. My team and I are in the process of putting together a phased plan. InnovAge will partner with an outside consulting company to make sure we fully consider every aspect necessary for safe reopening. Once that work is complete, we will share the plan with each center’s Participant Advisory Committee, caregivers, and staff. It will be an inclusive process. Gathering input from those impacted is critically important.
 
I am grateful for the partnership InnovAge has with participants and caregivers as our staff has adopted new ways to continue caring for our seniors. I also appreciate their engagement and feedback while we work every day to meet their needs. It helps us improve for our participants, colleagues, and communities.
